Prospective ARL Candidates 

  • Per NAC 391.461, Alternative Routes to Licensure (ARL) programs must be approved by the Commission on Professional Standards. NCSD is currently seeking ARL candidates for programs in K-8 Elementary, MS Core Subjects, Secondary Core Subjects, Early Childhood, and Special Education. NCSD approved ARL Educational Providers are Great Basin College and University of Nevada, Las Vegas.


  • Per NAC 391.057, the minimum requirements for ARL/conditional  licensure are:          
    • Accepted by a qualified  provider for enrollment in a program for an alternative route to licensure and  complies with the instructional and training policies and procedures of the  provider
    • Holds a bachelor’s degree  from a postsecondary institution that is regionally accredited
    • Passes competency test in  basic reading, writing and mathematics competency exam (Praxis™ Core Academic Skills for Educators), or be eligible  for an exemption per NAC 391.036 (Section 3)
    • Holds a major or minor in  the desired area of licensure or passes the corresponding Praxis II Subject Area Assessment approved by the Commission

Special Education Option Program

Individuals who have a valid Nevada teaching license and who wish to be hired as a Special Education teacher can agree to the terms of the Three-Year Special Education Option Program. Federal Student Loan Forgiveness

Qualifiying federal loans for teacher loan forgiveness now include Perkins Loans, Federal Family Education Loans (FFEL), and Direct Loans that were borrowed on or after October 1, 1998. Click on the Related Document to the right for more information and to see who qualifies for this loan forgiveness. 


AppliTrack is a Windows-based software application which automates our job postings and employment applications. Once an application is submitted, it is screened by Human Resources for minimum qualifications. Qualified applications are forwarded to hiring supervisors for interviews and hiring recommendations. 

Absence Management

Absence Management is a Windows-based software application which automates our employee absence reporting and substitute placement. Once an absence has been reported, Absence Management begins securing qualified substitutes. 

Social Security Information

Your Social Security retirement or disability benefits may be reduced. The Windfall Elimination Provision affects how the amount of your retirement or disability benefit is calculated if you receive a pension from work where Social Security taxes were not taken out of your pay.
