Attendance Matters

Parents/Legal Guardians,

We've updated our attendance policies and procedures to better reflect Nevada law.

NRS 392.130 states "...the parent or legal guardian or other person having control or charge of the pupil shall notify the..." the office, "...of the school orally or in writing... within 3 days after the pupil returns to school."

Notifications for an absence must include the absence reason. Upon notification, school administrators determine approval based on NRS 392-130.

The NRS continues to clarify that the school must mark any absence as truant if a reason is not provided within three days of the student's return to school and then refer the truancy to the Juvenile Probation's truancy officer.

So, please...

Make the call

Let the school know why your student was absent.

But wait... there's more...

We want to help! If your student accumulates 10 absences regardless of the reason, he/she is on track to be deemed "Chronically Absent" by the state, which can result in loss of credits or retention, so the school will call to set up a meeting to review your needs and provide support.

Communication is the key...

  • If your student is sick often, we have options.

  • If he or she has anxiety, we have options.

  • If the issue is transportation, we have options.

  • We just need to be able to work with you, so please,

    • MAKE THE CALL!

And Finally...

By law students are required to be in school, and not every reason for an absence can be approved. If your student is on a path to chronic absenteeism and a plan cannot be established to prevent that from happening, the schools must refer parents/legal guardians to DCFS and Law Enforcement for educational or medical neglect.
