Students in Transition (SIT) & Homeless Program
The NCSD Students in Transition (SIT) & Homeless Program exists under the guidance of the McKinney-Vento Act. This federal law ensures the right of students to go to school even when they are homeless or don’t have a permanent address, and provides students the opportunity to achieve the same high-quality academic standards by eliminating barriers to their education.
The SIT program provides students and families with valuable resources through a network of dedicated liaisons (Point of Contact) located in every school in the district.
Who can get help? The SIT program works to identify students experiencing housing insecurity that may be living in:
Doubled-up housing (living with friends/relatives due to economic hardship)
Transitional housing (temporary housing)
Unaccompanied youth (living without parent/guardian)

Tent, car, van, RV
